It combines a thorough, and meticulously researched, yet witty, account of the life of one of the twentieth centurys largely forgotten archaeologists." (Edwin James Aiken Bulletin of the Association for the Study of Travel in Egypt and the Near East 19, 2004) Mary Allsebrook's light-hearted and extremely readable account of her mother's extraordinary experiences shows Harriet Boyd to be truly one of America's pioneers. While the past and its arts were her profession, the present and the future were her passionate interest - whether local social problems in her home town of Boston or international affairs which took her to lunch with Mrs Roosevelt at the White House. While prominent as a lecturer and teacher, archaeology was only a part of her life: in 1897 she was nursing with the Red Cross in the Greco-Turkish war, in 1915 she was nursing Serbian typhoid victims on Corfu, and by 1917 she was in Northern France setting up a rehabilitation centre within sound of the front. She was the first woman to lecture to the Archaeological Instituite of America - ten times in fourteen days in January 1902. At a time when few women travelled on their own, she discovered, excavated and published an account of the Minoan town of Gournia in Crete. Synopsis: Harriet Boyd was the first woman to lead an archaeological excavation in the Aegean.

When Felicia said it was good that Tracy was coming home now because she needed her family, Tracy cackled out loud and said, "Have you met my family?" Her delivery is always spot-on.īut there was a very curious exchange about rooms in the Q mansion. All my favorite lines this week belonged to Tracy. I was so delighted, I wanted to kiss my TV screen. She waltzed in the door of the Q mansion, bellowing about Monica planting so many daffodils that it looked like the Easter Bunny threw up. Still, characters rarely get to be as openly antagonistic as Tracy Q. We have a lot of phenomenal actors on GH at present. It reminded me of what I consider to be the glory days of GH. I was delighted to see our beloved Jane Elliott step into the shoes of Tracy Quartermaine again this week. Dearest readers, I have been a General Hospital fan for a long time, and I remember stuff. Supposedly, Maggie had previously gone through four other loops. There were other problems with the whole “loop” concept. For example, since Steve's loop lasts less than a month, what happens to him after that time is up? Does he die at the end of his loop, the way Maggie and Benjamin did? If not, then how could he continue to exist past the end of his loop? If he did die at the end of his loop, how could he ever manage to break it? Unless every single individual who has ever gotten stuck in a loop has created multiple parallel timelines or something? Just trying to figure out the logic of the loops makes my brain hurt. I tried to ignore them and just enjoy the ride, but it was hard – my brain kept interrupting with questions that the book never satisfactorily answered. I had problems with this book's premise right from the start. |
